Firewalls
The firewall is the first line of defence for your network and its primary function is to regulate the flow of traffic between your network and other networks. In its simplest form this will allow all traffic from your network out, whilst blocking all other traffic from coming in.
In addition to this the firewall can perform many other functions including VPN termination using dedicated processors, Content Filtering using dedicated modules, Intrusion Prevention and Anti-Virus services.

VPN's
As more and more people have started to work from home the need for secure access to the corporate network has grown from a few unsecured dial-up connections to many concurrent VPN tunnels extending the corporate LAN too many different locations.
Using encryption technologies DIS can provide a scalable and secure solution to provide either a software client encrypted VPN tunnel or hardware based encrypted tunnels providing constant secure access to the corporate network.
Content Filtering
By implementing Content Filtering Organisations can control the information that is viewable by its employees.
The main use of Content Filtering is to remove explicit or adult content from web pages or block access to these pages completely. Depending on the product implemented content can be classified and blocked per user, per department or Organisation wide.
Intrusion Prevention & Detection
Intrusion Prevention technologies can be deployed at the edge of your network to prevent unauthorised access to your network. These technologies work in real-time to monitor all attempted and successful connection to your network. If any of these connections match any of the conditions set in the signature database a number of actions can be taken to protect your network. These include alerting you to the connection, resetting the connection or blocking it altogether.
LAN Security
There are a number of ways to provide security for your LAN ranging from Physical Security to software based security defences.

Network Access Control
There are a number of ways in which you can control access to you network. The simplest of these is to require all users supply a username and password when accessing the network. These usernames and passwords can easily be compromised allowing attackers to gain unauthorised access to your network.
